Millcreek Cafe and Eggworks: Bustling for Breakfast

You know how it is when you show up for a late breakfast, run into old friends, neighbors, or family, and end up chatting it up over old times?

That’s how breakfast at Millcreek Cafe and Eggworks feels. After slipping ourcar into a narrow spot in a crowded parking lot (interesting how that so often seems to indicate restaurant quality), we ran into some friends coming out. Inside, because it was Saturday, the café was bustling and busy, and we had to wait for a few minutes before a table opened up.

Our waitress was quick and polite. She not only smiled and said ‘hello’ to our two year-old, she quickly found a children’s chair for her, brought out some crayons and paper, and had a cup of milk with a sipping lid on it before we had even finished opening our menus. The service was, in fact, fantastic.

The food was great, too. I ordered a typical hash browns, easy-over eggs, and toast, while the wife had an omelet that mixed salsa directly into the recipe (rather than just being poured on top), and our toddler had a large pancake that I found myself eating more than she. It was all delicious.  Hash browns can tend to be either greasy or soggy, with too much starch or too much oil. These, however, were just right, crispy and light (as hash browns can be). The eggs were done just right, and went perfectly with the browns.

I’m not an omelet fan, generally, but Britt’s omelet wasn’t too shabby. She finished it off nicely. As for our toddler’s pancake…well, there’s no accounting for her appetite, but I enjoyed it.  I think she enjoyed peeling the wrappers off of the crayons, more.

I’ll be back to the Millcreek Cafe and Eggworks, soon. The food was good, and the service was happy and fast. The atmosphere was bustling, but that’s what breakfast should be–the feeling of starting a busy and productive day. Even if it is Saturday.
