On a morning like today’s, with the weather just a starting to feel a little warmer, but a cover of clouds still hanging over Salt Lake Valley, the best way to start the day is with pancakes. And nobody does better pancakes, or more varieties of them, than the Original Pancake House.
Found in Sugar House on 2100 S. and right next door to another favorite restaurant, O’Falafal, the Original Pancake House opens early and has lots of great seating. I usually make in by 7 AM, and by the time I leave around 8, it’s filled up. If that’s any sign of how popular it is, then you know you’ve got a great find.
My only gripe? The selection! There’s so much of it! Part of the reason I think places like In’n’Out do well is that people really only have two or three choices: hamburger or cheeseburger. Fries with that? The Original Pancake House features a menu that is chock full with options, from the classic pancake through exotic and fruit filled pancakes, chocolate chip pancakes, pumpkin pancakes, and more. Pancakes with bits of bacon, Georgia pecan pancakes, coconut pancakes, and pancakes wrapped in sausage links.
And that’s just the pancakes. They have omelets, hash browns, waffles, and something called the “Tahitian Maiden’s Dream”…whatever that is, it sounds good. I’ve not tried it yet, but it looks delicious.
If it’s breakfast time, you can’t do much better than the Original Pancake House. I’ve never left unsatisfied, not with the food, the service, or the experience. Great food, great service, and fast. It’s clean, large, and quick with a large selection of unique and creative breakfasts and it’s the best way to start the day. Your only problem will be remembering that your eyes are bigger than your stomach.
